Kampala Fashion Week 2018

Updated: Feb 8, 2019

Kampala Fashion Week took place from Sept 27 - 29, 2018 at Kampala’s historic railway station. The annual event in its 5th year is the brainchild of fashion creative genius and art director Gloria Wavamunno . This year, Gloria and her team out did themselves by choosing a great/unique location, diverse models and amazing local designers and artists that showcased their collections on the Uganda railway platform that was turned into a runway. There was also a pop-up Blackmarket that showcased established and emerging designer collections, merchandise and products. Attended by Kampala’s fashion enthusiasts, bloggers, celebrities etc, the event was highly successful and shed a bright light on the burgeoning Uganda fashion scene.

Day 1 (Sept 27, 2018)

Day one of KFW was invite only and was dedicated to the Seed Project. The seed project showcase (Skilled Expressive Entrepreneurial Designer) is supported by the US Mission where local designers, artists, tailors and performance artists are given the chance to showcase their talents and entrepreneurial skills. The finalists are then given access to workshops, one-on-one training and exposure to local and global established designers. From the finalists, a single winner is chosen and they will receive a full year of mentorship and the opportunity to showcase their collection on Kampala Fashion Week 2019. This year’s winner was Brian Sonko.
